Having grown up with a hammer in one hand and a t-square in the other, Rob gained a wealth of practical knowledge while working side by side with his mom and dad, who renovated every house they ever lived in. From basements and bathrooms, to kitchens, attics, and additions, Rob learned about top quality, symmetry and accuracy (not to mention carpentry, plumbing, and electrical methods) over the course of twenty years.
Working for Fairfax County government and then large D.C. area builders, he eventually started Wren Building Company in Fairfax, Virginia, building decks and finishing off basements while attending George Mason University. Upon relocating to Mathews in 1989, he began designing additions and homes part-time while veering off for several years as a full-time political consultant.
In 2000, he and his wife of twenty-two years, Robin, started Hawkeye Inspection Service, to perform home inspections in the eastern region of the Commonwealth. 2009 marks the tenth anniversary of that business. Acanthus Renovations was born in January of 2001, and since then Rob has designed and built several additions and renovations including some historic properties in Mathews County. 2006 saw the sale of his first house project and 2008 marked the company name change to Acanthus Design & Construction Company.
